Kevin Therres
Owner of Prairieland Motorsports and driver of the "007" jet car. |
|
| Kevin Therres, from Humboldt, Saskatchewan
is a veteran drag racer that has a career reaching back 30 years.
His love for the sport has not faded and in fact is stronger than
ever. He was raised on a farm near the town of Leroy,
Saskatchewan. At the age of 16 he married his teenage sweetheart,
Gwen. They raised their family of three boys in Humboldt with
sports taking up all their spare time. Family is huge in this
household. As the boys left home, grandchildren began to enter
Kevin and Gwen's lives. They now have five granddaughters, and two
grandsons. These kids are the apple of grandma and grandpa's eyes.
Kevin has spent many years working with youth. He has been heavily involved as a provincial hockey coach, provincial boxing coach, and for seven years billeted junior hockey players in their home. Kevin is a heavy duty mechanic by trade, working at KMK Sales in Humboldt. He is an avid builder, driver, and promoter of the sport of drag racing. Kevin and Gwen are members of the Drug Action Coalition committee in Humboldt. As well as being the owner and driver of the Prairieland Motorsports and the world's first Biodiesel Jet Funny Car, Kevin runs a Drug Awareness/Positive Lifestyle program which he delivers to schools across the prairie provinces. Kevin's race career began in the 70's with a '57 Chev Thatcher wagon powered by a monster 283 ci engine. He has had many, many cars since then including a '64 Acadian, a few Vegas, a Henry J., a Topalino Fiat, a 72 Mustang Funny Car named Goin' Bad. He had a rear engine dragster called TKO that ran in the 10's powered by a 396. He raced an alcohol injected '86 Vette called the Iron Mule, another alcohol injected car, this time an altered called Hot T. In 1989 Prairieland Motorsports was started and the race car was an '88 Vette Alcohol Funny Car. It was powered by a 540 Keith Black, blown and injected. It ran in the 7.50;s. Then came the '93 Dodge Daytona Alcohol Funny Car with a 526 K.B. hemi. Next came a dragster, a '93 S&W chassis, the Prairie Fire, followed by a '97 Lumina Top Alc. Funny Car. In 1998 the funny car was an Olds Achieva with a 526 Alan Johnson hemi. The engine stayed the same but in 2002 the body became an '02 Dodge Avenger. In 2007 another car was purchased in components to go along with the Avenger. It is a 2007 Corvette Jet Funny Car. As the car came together Kevin knew this was going to be a contender on the track, and a sponsor's dream as the car shows have shown so far. This year Kevin is devoting his time to racing, showing, and running his drug awareness program with the jet car.

Ed Wiesner
|
|
| Ed "Fast
Eddie" Wiesner is the newest member of the race team.
He joined us last winter as the need for a driver for the big rig became
necessary. The long trips got a lot shorter when Ed joined the
team. Regardless of the city we are in, Ed knows he's been there
before and gets us to our destination right on time.
Ed, a trucker for the past millennium comes from St. Gregor, Saskatchewan where he enjoys spending his spare time driving quad, taking care of his chuckwagon teams, and entertaining everyone with his stories of exciting tales from the past. There is never a dull moment as Eddie is always looking for the best of every situation. As the crew knows, you must always be on guard as you never can tell when you might be the object of one of his jokes. He is a great asset at the car shows as he spends the days cheerfully meeting race fans and car enthusiasts giving them all the critical information they may need about the race car. Come to the races or shows and stop to say hi. You will always be greeted with a smile and cheerful conversation.

Elloyd Block comes from Big River, Saskatchewan. He is married to his wife Roxie and has three kids, Devin, Kendall, and Mitch. They are all excited about the sport of drag racing. Many family trips have been made to the tracks in Saskatchewan, Alberta, as well as Las Vegas, Nevada for races. Elloyd has spent the past thirteen years in the sawmill industry. He has owned a mixed farming operation all his life up until a year ago when he decided to quit, sell the livestock, and create a bit of spare time to do more of what he enjoys. Project work for a large timber and paper company has Elloyd travelling throughout Canada and the U.S.. Along with working away from home a lot, he has created a partnership renovating and selling houses in Saskatchewan. Sports has always been a big part of Elloyd's life. He played hockey most winters and still plays ball every summer. He even took a shot at snowboarding with the kids. Elloyd joined the Prairieland Motorsports team after having Kevin present the Racing Against Drugs program at the local school. Impressed by Kevin's sincerity and the response from the students, their friendship grew and Elloyd joined the team later in the year of 2006. Elloyd created and takes care of the web site, and helps wherever possible with the cars. He also works on the promotion and sponsorship side of the business. His love for the sport is deep, and he has a great desire to see it grow. He enjoys interacting with the thousands of visitors that come to the display area to see the car. A highlight of last year was a week spent at the Calgary Stampede displaying the jet car while working with the great folks of the Canadian Canola Council.
